We’ve all heard of cats finding themselves in sticky situations, often stuck in trees, but in Pennsylvania, an adventurous feline had a unique misadventure, ending up perched high on a telephone line. Fortunately, the local community rallied together to ensure the cat’s safe rescue.
On the 11th of October, concerned neighbors in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, spotted a gray-and-white cat precariously positioned atop a telephone pole, as reported by the Columbia Borough Police Department.
The situation was dire; not only was the cat at risk of falling from this lofty perch, but there was also the looming threat of electrocution if it came into contact with live power lines.
Thankfully, help was on its way. Employees from PPL Electric Utilities swiftly arrived at the scene, deploying a bucket truck to reach the stranded cat. Officers from the Columbia Borough Police took charge of traffic control during this delicate operation.
In a selfless act, the utility crew temporarily disconnected electricity, inconveniencing about 200 residents who experienced a 10-minute power outage. The sacrifice was deemed more than worthwhile to save the imperiled feline.
The Columbia Borough Police lauded the utility crew as heroes, expressing their appreciation on Facebook. They noted that this marked the “second time in almost a week that PPL was called out in town for incidents that could have had deadly consequences for someone or something.”
Following the rescue, the cat was taken to the Columbia Animal Shelter, where it will find shelter until its owner can be identified.
While nobody enjoys a power outage, it’s safe to say that the brief blackout was a small price to pay for saving the life of this sweet cat. We eagerly await the day when the cat is reunited with its owner, with the hope that it will steer clear of precarious heights in the future.
