Dear Judge,

I trust this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to address the matter concerning the alleged traffic violation I was issued on 24-03-2023. I acknowledge receiving the citation indicating a recorded speed of 250 kilometers per hour, which I do not contest. However, I would like to provide some pertinent information regarding the interpretation of the speed limit as indicated by the sign.

Upon observing the road sign, I noticed the numerical marking “70” in black enclosed by red, with no further indication of units provided. It is important to note that in France, the legal system of measurement is based on the metric system, as mandated by the law of July 4, 1837. Additionally, decree n° 65-501 dated May 3, 1961 (as amended to comply with European directives) establishes the legal base units as per the International System of Units (SI). These details can be verified on the official Government website.

Under the SI system, the fundamental unit of length is the “meter,” and the fundamental unit of time is the “second.” Consequently, it is unequivocal that the legal unit of speed is the “meter per second” (m/s). I find it difficult to fathom that the Ministry of Interior would not adhere to the laws of the Republic. Therefore, a speed of 70 m/s corresponds precisely to 252 kilometers per hour. It is imperative to acknowledge that the police officers assert that I was recorded at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour, a fact that I do not dispute. Consequently, I was operating my vehicle 2 kilometers per hour below the authorized limit.

In light of the aforementioned information, I respectfully request that you review this matter and consider the legal perspective I have presented. I kindly urge the court to take this into account while evaluating my case. If the court finds it appropriate, I humbly request the reinstatement of my driving privileges and the resolution of this matter without further delay.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a just resolution based on the facts presented. Please do not hesitate to contact me if any further information is required.

Best regards,
