It is perfectly fine to eat your favorite ice cream or any other similar food that is high in sugar or fat, but it is best to do so only once or twice a week.

How come the Keto diet is not suitable for pregnant women?

The Keto diet is based on consuming a very small quantity of carbohydrate foods that contain a good nutritional value (vegetables, fruit, milk, cereal products, starchy foods, and legumes), and on the other hand, it is based on ingesting a lot of high-fat foods (cheese, butter, fatty fish, vegetable oils, eggs, cold cuts, cream…).

Considering the needs of the body, the ketogenic diet is a normal calorie diet. Since it is against eating foods containing a lot of carbohydrates, it means that you wouldn’t be able to eat a large amount of fruit, a vital source of vitamins for you, explaining why it would be unhealthy for you and your baby to follow this diet during your pregnancy.

Is it dangerous?

Well, it’s not something that we can be completely sure of. Dieting puts your body in a state of ketosis, which is completely unnatural for your body. Further research would be required to understand the impact that ketosis might have on the unborn child, but for now, it is better to be careful.

Weight loss during pregnancy is also not healthy, so there is no need to follow this diet for now.
