Posted October 30, 2023 by: Admin
Are holidays possible only without a large amount of sweet and sugary rum balls?
They are so easy to make (and modify!) and make excellent gifts for friends, family, and loved ones. Rum balls are so, so, so easy to make. Seriously, all you have to do is mix the ingredients, roll the dough into balls, and… that’s it!
But the simplicity of these balls doesn’t mean they’re not incredibly delicious! They’re nutty, sweet, and chocolatey to the max.
Spiced rum brings all these vibrant flavors together, making it a devilish winter indulgence.
So, if you’re ready to dive into the kitchen, check out this rum ball recipe. And make sure to make a big batch – you’ll need it!
Easy Rum Balls Recipe
Classic rum balls are a holiday favorite for a reason: they’re quick, delicious, and delightfully boozy.
These no-bake perfection balls come together in no time and are a fantastic way to fill your holiday cookie tray.
And while the basic recipe calls for spiced rum, you can swap it for different flavors or bourbon for an extra kick.
Keep them plain or roll them in sprinkles, powdered sugar, or chopped nuts to create a beautiful holiday box of rum balls. You really can’t go wrong!
Since these no-bake rum balls are alcoholic, they are for adults only. But if you want to make a batch of kid-friendly treats, I have some tips below.
Ingredients
- Vanilla wafers. Vanilla wafers add a crunchy cookie element to the rum balls, as well as sweet vanilla flavors. Any cookie works, though!
- Pecans. Nothing says holidays better than pecans. They bring a subtle nuttiness that I know you’ll love. For best results, toast them in the oven until fragrant.
- Confectioners’ sugar. Aka powdered sugar. You can’t use granulated sugar here as it will be gritty and unpleasant. Instead, you want a sweetness that dissolves on your tongue.
- Cocoa powder. I say “baking cocoa” because I know some people have tried this with hot cocoa mix, and the rum balls didn’t turn out quite right. You want unsweetened dark cocoa for the best chocolatey flavor.
- Rum. Rum is the star of the show! So make sure to get dark spiced rum – not white or anything too sweet, like Malibu.
- Honey. Honey adds another layer of sweetness and a lot of flavor. You can also use corn syrup or maple syrup if you don’t have honey.
- Additional crushed vanilla wafers. You’ll have some wafers left in the box, and they make a super simple coating. Crush them into powder and roll your rum balls until they’re coated for a nice crunchy finish.
