Crafting this delectable homemade dill pickle popcorn is a breeze, and it’s bursting with flavor! It incorporates dried dill, onion powder, garlic powder, and the perfect blend of butter and salt, delivering a tangy, salty, and savory popcorn that fulfills your cravings in a healthier manner.
Popcorn holds a special place among my favorite snacks. It’s remarkably easy to prepare and effortlessly caters to cravings for crunchiness, saltiness, or savory delights. Despite popcorn’s somewhat tainted reputation, not all popcorn is cut from the same cloth. While movie theater popcorn may be tempting, it’s laden with vegetable oil and an assortment of additives. In contrast, homemade popcorn stands as an underrated and nutritious snack option.
Notably, whipping up stovetop popcorn is a cinch, and readily available plain or natural microwave popcorn bags offer a convenient shortcut if you’re not in the mood for popping kernels from scratch. However, the real magic of popcorn lies in the toppings. By skillfully combining herbs and spices, you can effortlessly conjure up a myriad of sweet or savory flavors. Among these, dill pickle happens to be a personal favorite of mine and, according to an Instagram poll, it’s a crowd-pleaser as well!
This dill pickle popcorn boasts a delightful fusion of saltiness and savory goodness, making it the ideal companion for a movie night, and you can relish it knowing that it’s equally good for you.
Dill Pickle Popcorn
This dill pickle popcorn seasoning is a quick and straightforward preparation. If you’d like to prepare it in advance, simply scale up the recipe to create a larger batch and store it in a glass jar or container in your pantry until needed.
Ingredients
For the Popcorn:
- 1/4 cup corn kernels (or 1 bag plain microwave popcorn)
- 4 tablespoons butter
For the Dill Pickle Seasoning:
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat and let it melt.
- Once melted, add the corn kernels, cover with a lid, and allow all the kernels to pop. (If using microwave popcorn, follow the package directions for popping and omit the first 2 tablespoons of butter from the recipe.)
- While the popcorn is popping, combine all the spices in a small bowl or jar and set them aside. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan or microwave-safe dish and set it aside.
- Once the popcorn is ready, drizzle it with the melted butter and sprinkle with the dill pickle seasoning to your liking.
