David Bowie, originally named David Robert Jones, was an iconic singer-songwriter celebrated for his remarkable contributions to the rock and roll genre. His impressive catalog featured timeless classics like “Heroes,” “Under Pressure,” “Space Oddity,” and “Rebel Rebel.” Bowie’s innovative music and androgynous style revolutionized the music industry, giving a voice to those on society’s fringes. Regrettably, Bowie succumbed to liver cancer in 2016.
To honor Bowie’s enduring cultural impact, Maria Lloret, a Spanish woman, paid tribute to him in a unique way—by naming her rescued cat after the music legend.
Bowie the Cat had a challenging start to life; he was found abandoned in Spain in 2018. Fortunately, a veterinary clinic rescued him and put him up for adoption. Maria Lloret happened upon him and was instantly captivated by his charms.
Bowie received his name due to his captivating heterochromia, a condition where both eyes have different colors. Many believed David Bowie shared this trait, but in fact, he had anisocoria, a condition causing unequal pupil sizes.
Nonetheless, the cat undeniably resembled Bowie, particularly with his distinct facial markings. The lightning bolt-like markings on Bowie the Cat’s predominantly white face mirrored David Bowie’s iconic 1973 album cover for “Aladdin Sane.”
When Lloret first met Bowie, she was charmed by his playful demeanor and spirited attitude. Bowie the Cat was a perfect name for him, and she promptly adopted him. She began sharing his photos online, and the world soon took notice.
Bowie quickly gained popularity through his Instagram account, where his life was documented. Lloret provided captions in Spanish with English translations. As of June 2020, he boasted over 35,000 followers!
Part of the reason for Bowie’s soaring popularity is his uncanny ability to pose for the camera, as if he knows how to find the perfect angle and lighting. Occasionally, Lloret takes him on outdoor adventures and captures his adventures in the town.
Maria Lloret’s mission is not only to celebrate Bowie the Cat’s life but also to advocate for animal adoption. She believes in spreading joy to more people and providing loving homes for animals like Bowie.
In a heartwarming Throwback Thursday post, Lloret shared a photo of Bowie as a kitten, along with the caption, ” #throwbackthursday! This is me when they rescued me from a park after being abandoned. Such big ears!”
Bowie the Cat resides in Alicante, Spain, with his devoted cat mom. Their journey of sharing photos, advocating for rescues and adoptions, and engaging with their followers seems destined to continue.

Research reveals that one in every three pet owners grapple with allergies affecting their pets. Emergency veterinary care is a necessity for pets, with an annual visit being a common occurrence. Many pet owners and families often struggle with the financial burden of hefty veterinary bills, which can amount to thousands of dollars.
This is where pet insurance plays a vital role. The “feedback loop” emerges when individuals perceive nature as being separate from the insurance sphere. Pet insurance not only shields pet owners from substantial vet expenses but also ensures that animals receive the essential care they need. As people invest more in their pets, pet insurance rates continue to rise.
Pet insurance can effectively cover the costs of veterinary care, helping pet owners and their furry companions in times of need.
