A lovely calico kitten was discovered wandering through the backyards of a Brooklyn neighborhood. Fortunately, a compassionate family came to her rescue, providing her with much-needed food and water. While other cats eventually departed the area, this little feline chose to stay put.

This charming kitten, affectionately named Nico, initially displayed a fearful disposition but longed for human affection. She would curl up into a tiny ball whenever she was held, not attempting to escape or resist being petted. The compassionate finders reached out to Gissell from Paws of Hope NYC, seeking her assistance.

“Nico was clever enough to stick around. I was aware that we were expecting severe weather the very next day, so I promptly contacted my vet to arrange a wellness check on the same day,” Gissell shared with Love Meow.

After being treated for fleas, the kitten was found to be in good health. Despite her initial nervousness, she quickly found comfort in the arms of the veterinary staff, allowing them to pick her up and cradle her affectionately.

“She adores being held like a baby and is relishing all the extra love and attention.”

Danette Oberg, a dedicated volunteer for the rescue organization, heard about the kitten’s need for a foster home and immediately stepped in to provide Nico with the care she required.

“Paws of Hope NYC is a small foster-based rescue, which means we don’t have a physical shelter for our cats and kittens. As a result, our small team of foster parents plays a crucial role in our mission to save lives.”

Nico, though weary and shy from her harrowing experience, continued to be receptive to human touch.

“She was shaken and scared but very sweet, and would simply melt in your arms,” Danette told Love Meow. “The next day, she made quite the mess of her own, and she was still nervous about her new surroundings.”

Danette gave the young cat a much-needed spa treatment, and while she was drying the kitten, Nico found solace in her care.

“She lay on my desk all day while I worked, and I believe she knew she was safe. She napped and napped.”

On that fateful day, heavy rain poured down in sheets, causing severe flooding in parts of New York City. “Nico was rescued Thursday, right before the storm.”

As the deluge raged outside, with the rain beating against the windows, Nico remained snug and tucked into her warm blanket indoors.

“She’s still quite scared, but she’s comfortable with me. I hold her as often as I can so she knows she’s safe.”

The following day, Danette woke up to the sound of a sweet purr machine, longing for affection. Nico nestled contentedly against her chest for as long as she could.

Gradually, Nico is emerging from her shell and has even started to play with toys that are new to her.

“She loves to nuzzle in my neck, and her fur is incredibly soft.”

Thanks to the timely rescue, Nico will never have to go hungry or brave the perilous streets again.

With each passing day, her confidence grows, and she luxuriates in the comforts of a happy life, reveling in the endless cuddles from her foster mom.
