More than 30 years after their first meeting, actors Jonathan Ke Quan and Drew Barrymore reunited to present Steven Spielberg with the impact award at the Time100 Gala on April 27. Quan and Spielberg first worked together in 1984’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” when Quan was just 12 years old. Similarly, Barrymore landed her breakout role in Spielberg’s 1982 film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” at the age of 7.

During the gala, Quan thanked Spielberg for helping him discover his love for acting, saying “Steven introduced me to this world where his imagination lived and invited me in. He showed me how much fun we can have when we let creativity be our guide.” Barrymore also spoke about the impact Spielberg had on her life, saying “Every person on the planet has a story, and Steven has made us all feel so connected, not only in the movie theaters but in life itself.”

Spielberg also spoke highly of Quan and Barrymore, saying “I was so lucky to find them both, and they have not changed in all those years.” The director himself has been receiving acclaim for his semi-autobiographical film “The Fabelmans” while Quan recently made a comeback in Hollywood, winning his first Oscar after starring in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

Interestingly, Quan and Barrymore have a history together as they both attended the Youth in Film Awards in 1984 and posed together on the red carpet. At the time, Quan was nominated for best young supporting actor in a motion picture for “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” while Barrymore was nominated for best young actress in a motion picture for “Irreconcilable Differences.”
