Drake Bell claims he found out wife filed for divorce online

Drake Bell, the actor famous for his role in Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh, is going through a difficult time after news broke that his wife, Janet Von Schmeling, filed for divorce last week, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She is requesting legal and physical custody of their one-year-old son, as well as spousal support. The news came as a shock to Bell, who reportedly learned of it through TMZ.
The 36-year-old musician and actor, who was declared “missing and endangered” last week, responded to the news by promoting his new song “Going Away,” which has a poignant title considering the circumstances. Bell had been reported missing due to mental health concerns, but was eventually found safe.
According to reports, the Daytona Beach Police Department had been searching for Bell after he had a “falling out” with his wife and allegedly sent a text to his family in California saying he was going to “get drunk” and end his life in a hotel in Orlando. His brother, Robert, reached out to the authorities after becoming worried about Bell’s well-being.
Bell has had a troubled past, with numerous run-ins with the law over the past decade. In 2015 and 2016, he was arrested for DUI, and in 2020, a former girlfriend accused him of verbal and physical abuse, which he denied. In June 2021, he was charged with attempted child endangerment and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles for developing an inappropriate relationship with a minor, who accused him of sexual misconduct. He pleaded guilty to the endangerment charges and was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service.
In January of this year, Bell reportedly entered outpatient treatment for substance abuse. It’s clear that he’s been struggling, and we hope that he’s able to get the help he needs during this difficult time.
