Christine McVie, a renowned British vocalist and keyboardist best known for her contributions to Fleetwood Mac, passed away on November 30, 2022, at the age of 79. McVie had been hospitalized due to a short illness, and her death certificate revealed that the primary cause of death was an ischemic stroke, which occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is reduced, leading to a lack of oxygen and nutrients in the brain tissue.
The certificate also listed “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin” as the secondary cause of death. This indicates that cancer had spread throughout her body, but the primary source or tumor could not be detected. McVie had also been suffering from atrial fibrillation, a common type of irregular heartbeat, and a large atrial thrombus at the time of her death.
In a joint statement, Fleetwood Mac expressed their deep sorrow at McVie’s passing, describing her as “one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure.” Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks also paid tribute to their late bandmate on social media, with Nicks sharing a handwritten letter mourning her “best friend in the whole world.”
McVie had previously spoken about her poor health, including a chronic back problem that made it difficult for her to stand. Despite this, she continued to make music and perform until her death, leaving behind a legacy of incredible talent and unforgettable performances.
