Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has recently opened up about his struggles with an eating disorder, which he developed after comparing himself to pop stars like Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes. The 32-year-old Grammy winner said that he began feeling self-conscious about his image after collaborating with these artists, who he described as having “fantastic figures”. He admitted to feeling “mad uncomfortable” and resorted to binge-eating until he vomited.

Ed confessed that he is a “binge-everything” person and has struggled with an addictive personality. In the past, he has also struggled with binge-drinking and junk food, but now he is focusing on becoming a “binge exerciser” and a “binge dad”. Ed likened his battle to Elton John’s, who also suffered from bulimia and wrote about it in his autobiography.

Ed is currently a father to two young children, Lyra and Jupiter, with his wife Cherry Seaborn. The couple recently went through a difficult time after Cherry was diagnosed with a tumor while pregnant with their second child. In addition, Ed’s close friend Jamal Edwards, who helped launch his career, passed away in February 2022 after a night of drinking and drug use. Ed, who used to take drugs himself, has since vowed to never use them again out of respect for Jamal.

In a forthcoming Disney+ docuseries, Ed documents the emotional pain he went through during these difficult times. He also reveals that Cherry’s health was severely affected, and he broke down on stage while performing. In his announcement for his upcoming album Subtract, Ed stated that he has been through a lot in the past few years, and he hopes that his music will help others who are going through similar struggles.
